About GATC

The Girls and the City (GATC) organization was established to bring women together in a fun and friendly social setting, while offering premium online content and features. GATC provides an outlet for women to bond both online and in person, sharing ideas, information, and enabling them to improve their overall life.

GATC hosts about 50 events every year, including:
  • Third Thursdays - meet and mingle with other members over dinner
  • Girls Night Out (GNO) - women meet up for a night on the town
  • Parties - potlucks, tv show or movie viewings
  • Book Club Meetings (BCM) - book discussion and short reading
  • Women's Workshops (WW) - betterment lessons for women
  • Travel - trips to various places appealing to women
Founded in March 2004, GATC currently has 145 members, with 88% of members in the 20-39 age range. A nominal annual fee, to help source club funds and the web site, is solicited from any adult woman interested in joining GATC, regardless of her background.

GATC relies heavily on its interactive events and networking web site to allow people to sign up for membership, read premium content, communicate with one another, register and pay for events, submit event feedback, and make suggestions for club improvements.

In August 2007, GATC launched a subset, Moms & the City, with events geared specifically towards moms and their children.

A Virtual Clubhouse

The web site is the backbone - the "virtual clubhouse" - of GATC. Women can sign up for membership online in a matter of minutes. They can network with other members, interact with staff, and register for upcoming events. The site offers a variety of other useful features, including a book club, premium content, a message board, online shopping, recommended links, and upcoming area events of interest.

In addition to the web site, GATC features a twice-monthly e-mail to its e-mail list group with breaking news and upcoming events. A monthly social/networking event is held to give members an opportunity to meet and socialize in person.
